1. Potret kesederhanaan kyai zaman now yang patut dicontoh

Meskipun memiliki sebuah pondok pesantren di wilayah Bogor, tidak akan ada yang menyangka kalau Endang adalah pimpinan pesantren. Jika dilihat dari penampilannya yang sangat sederhana, tidak ada kesan bahwa ia adalah seorang kyai. “Saya sedang belajar ilmu agar tak dikenal orang.” Kata itulah yang terlontar dari mulutnya kendati tak pernah tampil dengan busana ala pemuka agama.

Mungkin hal ini sangat jarang sekali ditemukan di zaman sekarang. Disaat banyak para pemuka agama dan ustadz ingin dikenal melalui dakwahnya, Endang malah menutupi identitasnya dan menjadi driver ojek online. “Orang tidak ada yang menyangka saya ketua pembina pondok pesantren. Tapi kalau saudara-saudara ke sana, melihat santri cium tangan sama saya, baru percaya,” katanya.

2. Biayai anak yatim dengan uang hasil bekerja banting tulang

Sebelum menjadi driver Gojek, Endang pernah mencoba segala macam peruntungan . Ia pernah bekerja sebagai mekanik elektrik di luar pulau Jawa, namun hal tersebut menyulitkan untuk mengontrol para santrinya, karena hanya boleh pulang setelah 8 bulan. Selain itu, sebelum menjadi driver, Endang hanya berpenghasilan 800 ribu perbulan, semua digunakan untuk membeli keperluan para santriwatinya.

Setelah beralih profesi, Endang merasa lebih luas dan nyaman. Selain bisa terus mengurus pondok pesantren, ia juga bisa membiayai anak yatim yang ingin belajar namun tidak mampu dari segi materi, membiayai penuh anak rekan sesama mitra gojek yang sudah meninggal dalam bertugas. Pesantren yang dulunya hanya dari bilik bambu pun sekarang perlahan dibangun dan menjadi lebih layak.

3. Rela berkorban hingga membelikan pembalut santriwati

Pondok pesantren Nurul Iman yang ia asuh sebenarnya sudah berdiri sejak 12 tahun lalu, namun baru bisa berkembang setelah ia pindah profesi menjadi driver Gojek. Pondok pesantren tersebut juga tidak strategis tempatnya, sehingga menuntut Endang untuk melakukan segala hal yang diperlukan oleh santriwatinya.

“Bahkan hingga pembalut dan obat-obatan juga saya yang beli. Karena kan pondok ini adanya di atas gunung, jadinya kasihan kalau mereka sakit atau apa harus turun gunung sendiri,” jelasnya. Mungkin hal ini tidak akan dilakukan oleh ustadz manapun juga, tapi Endang mengaku tidak keberatan dengan melakukan hal tersebut.

4. Kebaikan hati yang ikhlas tanpa meminta balas budi

Endang tidak hanya berbaik hati untuk membiayai penuh santri yang yatim dan fakir, serta mereka yang tidak mampu saja. Terkadang ia memberi uang jajan kepada para santri sehingga bisa membeli habis jualan yang lewat di depan pondok pesantrennya, dari tukang bakso hingga penjual gorengan. Semuanya dilakukan tanpa mengharap ia akan mendapat balasan yang sama.

Tapi memang setiap kebaikan yang dilakukan dengan ketulusan akan dibalas dengan imbalan yang sesuai. Setiap pergi bekerja, selalu ada saja penumpang yang memberika uang tip, sumbangan, serta doa untuk kemajuan pesantrennya. Bahkan ada salah satu anggota kepolisian yang pernah meng-order dan memberikan sumbangan setiap bulan 350 ribu. Hal tersebut bahkan dilakukan selama setahun terakhir ini. Endang sendiri menuturkan bahwa dirinya juga lupa dan sudah tidak ingat dengan nama si penyumbang.

5. Semangat dan tekad menciptakan santri yang hafal Al-quran 30 juz

Mewujudkan mimpi untuk membuat anak-anak hafal Al-quran memang sebuah tugas berat yang harus diemban, terlebih Nurul Iman bukanlah yayasan yang bisa menggaji guru dari luar. Tak kehabisan akal, Endang menjadikan adiknya sebagai pengurus pondok untuk membantunya mengajar para santri.

Kini, dari keseluruhan 126 santriwati Pondok pesantren Nurul Iman dengan rentan usia 9 hingga 20 tahun, 11 di antaranya sudah menuntaskan hafalan Al-Quran mereka. 6 dari mereka masih tinggal di pondok karena harus membantu santri lain selama tiga bulan, baru setelahnya mendapat ijazah.

Zaman sekarang, orang yang mau berbuat baik tanpa mengharap balas budi memang jarang ditemui.
